BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Broken Arrow High School celebrated its third annual Fine Arts Signing Day for seniors pursuing postsecondary education in the fine arts.

“Today, we’re really excited to be here for our third annual collegiate Fine Arts Signing Day,” shared Darrin Davis, the Executive Director of Fine Arts for Broken Arrow Public Schools. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate our graduating seniors and the scholarships that they’ve earned as they’re moving on into the next phase of their lives.”

Davis said about 50 students signed with different collegiate schools during the event.

Rayshun Howard, a graduating senior heading to the University of Oklahoma, said participating in the signing was a special moment.

“It honestly feels very surreal. Some of my friends that signed today I have known since sixth grade and to see them grow and mature right alongside me and get to sign to a university that they want to go to and pursue what they want to do is really heartwarming.”

Howard said he feels prepared to begin a new journey outside of Broken Arrow High School.

“BA was really helpful. We have a motto here that they prepare us to be college, career and life ready. I believe that Broken Arrow does just that, especially in fine arts. There’s a lot of cultural things that they teach us, a lot of life lessons that I think many of us will use for the rest of our lives.”

Davis agreed, saying each fine arts program aims to give students the skills they need to succeed.

“Being in fine arts is about expressing yourself. It’s about giving something of yourself to others and that’s real important in what we do in the high school years is to find ways for students to grow their leadership skills and their creativity. That’s something that fine arts does.”

According to Davis, the 50 seniors who participated in the signing collectively earned $2.3 million in scholarship awards.
