Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado says he plans on staying in Tulsa despite being considered for a job in Washington, D.C.
Earlier this month, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin was eyeing Sheriff Regalado as the new Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. However, in a statement, Regalado says he’s withdrawing his name from consideration and wants to stay in Tulsa.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons announced his resignation from the position in April, and his last day on the job will be May 31.
Regalado expressed gratitude for being considered by Mullin. He also says Tulsa is his home, and he wants to continue serving the people of Tulsa County. In March, Mullin assumed the office of Secretary of Homeland Security, replacing Kristi Noem.
Sheriff Regalado was elected Tulsa County sheriff in April of 2016.
