WAGONER CO., Okla. — A Coweta man has been arrested after allegedly making threats at the Wagoner County courthouse.
Officials said the man entered the courthouse on May 21 to file a theft report with the Wagoner County Court Clerk’s office, but became upset when advised that his report could not be taken at the courthouse due to jurisdictional issues.
Witnesses allege that the man made statements about returning to “shoot the courthouse up.”
These statements were immediately reported to courthouse deputies by the witnesses.
Officials said the man then went to a nearby Casey’s convenience store in Wagoner where witnesses, including an EMT, said he made more threats and claimed law enforcement would not help him. He then allegedly threatened to shoot law enforcement officers and other first responders.
A Wagoner County Deputy and officers from the Coweta Police Department arrested the man at his home without incident.
The man was taken to the Wagoner County Detention Center and booked on a charge of Threatening to Perform an Act of Violence. He is being held without bond pending further court proceedings.
Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott said in response to the incident, “Any threat of violence against our courthouse, law enforcement officers, first responders, or the public will be treated with the utmost seriousness. Our deputies worked quickly alongside the Coweta Police Department and Wagoner Police Department to investigate these threats and take the suspect into custody without incident. We are grateful for the citizens and first responders who immediately reported the statements, allowing law enforcement to act swiftly to help ensure the safety of our Wagoner County Community.”
