OWASSO, Okla. — The Owasso Public Works Department held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of its new facility on Friday.

“We’re having our grand opening of the new public works facility,” explained Owasso Public Works Director Roger Stevens. “We have the administration facility right behind me, which is roughly about 17,000 square feet. Further to the south, we have some other facilities, the field operations facility as well as the fleet building and the building maintenance facility as well and some enclosed storage is back there for our equipment.”

Stevens said the public works department was in desperate need of upgraded facilities.

Stevens said they were even able to add what may seem like a small upgrade, but one that he knows will make a huge difference for employees.

“We’ve got something that as a former employee that worked out in the field many years ago, one of the things that we knew is a necessity is actually having showers for the employees that work in the wastewater and the water so they can take a shower before they go home. They actually have showers now, something that we’re very proud of that we’re being able to provide to the employees.”
Ultimately, Stevens said the public works department is ready to use the new facility to improve the services they provide to Owasso residents.

“First, I want to say to the Owasso residents thank you. Thank you from the bottom of our heart on behalf of the City, on behalf of public works. This investment is going to last and be an investment that’s going to continue to pay back over decades because we’ll be able to expand. We’ll be able to provide the resources to the citizens as the city continues to grow, being able to be more organized because we have the room to do so now. As well as being more organized, we’re going to be able to respond in a quicker manner. We’re very blessed and we’re very excited to be able to expand and improve our services.”

Stevens said the new facility provides public works with a total of 62 acres to use.
