SB1636 allows families to request investigations into cold cases

Cold cases could now get a fresh set of eyes.

Thanks to Senate Bill 1636, signed by Governor Kevin Stitt, families of victims can now request a review of cold cases, allowing fresh eyes to look at old investigations.

New detectives can look at cases from different angles, which could lead to breakthroughs.

Representative Ross Ford, the House author of the bill, hopes that this legislation will help families find closure and justice for their loved ones.

Dr. Maggie Zingman believes that this law will prevent other families from experiencing the same challenges she faced in seeking justice for her daughter. Zingman’s daughter was raped and murdered in 2004, and it remains unsolved. She has been advocating for outside assistance in her case for over 20 years.
