Jenks and Tulsa Fire Department respond to overnight fire at Jones Airport

FOX23

Tulsa and Jenks firefighters battled a fast‑moving blaze late Sunday after smoke reports near Jones Airport escalated into a fully involved building fire.

According to Tulsa Fire Department spokesperson Andy Little, calls began coming in around 10:01 p.m., describing flames involving a structure, vehicles, and nearby woods along the curve at Jenks. When Engine 6 reached the west side of the river at 10:10 p.m., crews say they found multiple travel trailers burning and a large building already heavily involved.

A reported explosion prompted immediate searches, and firefighters confirmed everyone was safely out.

Access and water supply quickly became the central challenge. Little says the nearest hydrant was more than 1,000 feet from the fire, forcing crews to stretch long hose lines and cut through a locked gate on a gravel road to reach the property.

As flames pushed into surrounding trees and vegetation, he said Tulsa and Jenks crews worked aggressively to contain spot fires, protect exposures, and establish additional water sources. Hazardous Materials teams operated along the backside of the structure while suppression crews attacked the main body of fire.

By 10:47 p.m., firefighters say they had knocked down significant fire on one side of the building, though the structure remained heavily involved.

Power was shut off due to a downed line hazard, and crews continued working with limited access to water.

Command declared the fire under control at approximately 11:16 p.m., but firefighters stayed on scene overnight, rotating relief units and monitoring hotspots.

No civilian or firefighter injuries have been reported.
