Firefighters from several agencies responded to a fire at the Explorer Pipeline Glenpool tank farm near 126th Street and Highway 75 Monday morning.
Explorer Pipeline said the fire was caused by a lightning strike and eventually spread to three tanks. The company said the tanks contained natural gasoline, a liquid fuel used in the production of gasoline and other products.
As crews battled the fire, officials monitored air quality in the area and issued a voluntary shelter in place recommendation, which was later lifted.
A spokesperson for the Glenpool Fire Department said a foam substance was used in the process of knocking the flames down and in keeping the smoldering tanks from reigniting.
Despite the massive flames, no injuries were reported.
Multiple agencies assisted with the efforts including the Cushing Fire Department, Sinclair Refining Fire Team, Coffeyville Resources Fire Team, Williams Fire and Hazard Control, U.S. Fire Pump and the Kiefer Fire Department.
The Tulsa Fire Department was also on site for a time and Explorer Pipeline provided resources for firefighters.
City officials said the area is safe, but added that residents may notice lower water pressure.
