McINTOSH COUNTY, Okla. — The McIntosh County Board of Commissioners have extended the burn ban for another 14 days. The ban is effective immediately.
The ban prohibits the use of fireworks, setting fires in the forest, as well as banning campfires or the burning of trash which could cause wildfires.
Outdoor grilling is still allowed with the use of liquid petroleum gas, natural gas, pellet smokers, and charcoal-fired grills. The resolution states the grill must be placed over a non-flammable surface, such as concrete or dirt, and must be at least five feet away from any flammable vegetation.
When welding, the resolution states it must be done over non-combustible surfaces, cleared down to the bare soil stretching 10 feet out. Fire blankets must be used to block sparks and a designated person must stand guard as a “Fire Watch”. The designated person should have pressurized water or a fire extinguisher ready to use. Welding will be banned if wind speeds exceed 20 mph.
County Commissioners say if extreme fire danger conditions continue, other resolutions could be passed and the burn ban will stay in effect until cancelled by a new resolution.
