The Tulsa State Fair rolls into town this week, and Sheriff Vic Regalado and his staff are focusing on safety, which includes “No Guns.”
Sheriff Regalado tells KRMG there is a no-tolerance policy for guns at the fair.
“I am telling everybody now, there will be zero tolerance in trying to bring a gun into the fair. If you do, you will be arrested and charged,” he said.
The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office patrols the fair each year, and Sheriff Regalado says vendors constantly tell him the fair is one of the safest in the country. Despite that, unruly teens have been an issue, and he says parents have two options when it comes to teenagers.
“You can come with them as a parent and ensure that they act correctly and safely, or you can keep them home and not bring them to the fair,” Regalado said.
He is also encouraging parents to utilize the wristband program and to have a current picture of the child available in case they get lost. The wristband has important parent information, including a cell phone number. Last year, deputies reunited just under 100 lost children with their parents.
The sheriff’s office is also using as much technology as they can to keep people safe. They will use cameras and drone technology. However, airspace over the fair is restricted, and only the sheriff’s office can fly drones in the area.
