Spurgeon can’t release details about police chief Arnold’s administrative leave yet

Broken Arrow Police Department

BROKEN ARROW — Broken Arrow City Manager Michael Spurgeon spoke to KRMG today about the police chief and the current investigation.

BA Police Chief Lance Arnold is on paid administrative leave as the city conducts an internal investigation, and Spurgeon says he can’t release details at this time.

“I’m going to try to move as quickly but as thoroughly to ensure a full, fair and complete investigation is completed. And then once that’s done, I’ll update the city council and then we will subsequently inform the community,” Spurgeon said.

Spurgeon has appointed Deputy Chief Scott Bennett as Acting Police Chief and said he has the utmost confidence in him leading the department. The city manager also said he wants to move quickly and thoroughly until the investigation is complete, and then he will update the public.

“All I ask everyone is to give me time to complete this investigation. We are the most transparent city, I believe, in the state of Oklahoma and one of the most transparent in the country,” Spurgeon said.

Chief Arnold has led the BAPD since January of 2025.
