Man convicted in ‘Foggy Bottom’ restaurant scheme gets suspended sentence

Brent Swadley

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Brent Swadley, the former restaurateur who was convicted of six felony counts in connection to the restaurants he ran at six Oklahoma State Parks, will not do any prison time, after the judge in the case gave him a six-year suspended sentence and ordered him to pay approximately $1.2 million dollars in restitution and fines.

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond, whose office conducted the prosecution in the case, blasted that decision from Judge Cindy Truong, saying that she “invited fraudsters like Brent Swadley to injure Oklahoma with impunity” and saying that she should resign.

Prosecutors allege Swadley overcharged the state more than $3 million in fake invoices and inflated costs, during the course of his renovation and management of restaurants under the ‘Foggy Bottom’ brand at the state parks.

The jury had recommended 10 years in prison for Swadley.
