BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The Rose District in downtown Broken Arrow already has a wide variety of shops, but city leaders say they’re about to fill an important niche that’s hasn’t been served so far.

Randall Ryan, the owner of a coffee shop in downtown Broken Arrow, is creating a new bodega-style deli and small grocery store called District Mercantile in a building on the northwest corner of Main and Dallas, in a building that’s been vacant for an extended.

In a public-private partnership, Brent Brassfield with the city’s business development department says the city is helping pay the costs to renovate the space.

“This local market is going to provide milk and eggs and aspirin, and not only that, but it’s going to have a deli, grab-and-go sandwiches and everything,” Brassfield said.

The space will also include an expanded version of Ryan’s coffee shop, that he’s renamed the Wanderlust Roastery.

City officials say he plans to open in a couple of weeks, if not sooner.
