MUSKOGEE, Okla. — The City of Muskogee had a special city council meeting Monday night in an attempt to figure out how to pay more than $29 million in court settlements.
The city could raise sales or property tax rates to pay the settlements, but at Monday night’s meeting, Muskogee Mayor Ryan Lowe said the city is working with the City of Muskogee Foundation about a possible different path.
“We have had productive conversations with the City of Muskogee Foundation. They have shown interest in guaranteeing a loan for us, the city— the community — that does not raise property tax and does not raise ad valorem tax,” said Mayor Lowe.
