TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Fire Department battled a building fire Monday night in north Tulsa.
Tulsa Fire crews responded to reports of a building on fire near the intersection of North Lewis Avenue and East Marshall Street just after 10 p.m.
Engine 3 was first one scene and reported flames coming from the structure. Crews attacked the fire and were able to extinguish the fire.
While putting out the fire, several firefighters notice a substance on their gear that looked to be a crude oil product. Crews left the structure and requested the Tulsa Fire HazMat team to evaluate the material as a precaution.
HazMat determined the material was not hazardous and didn’t pose a threat to firefighters and crews continued to put out the fire. Crews also worked with a building representative to ensure no other materials were disturbed or cause a safety incident.
TFD says the fire was under control in just over an hour. The equipment will be bagged and switched for clean gear as the gear used will be decontaminated and cleaned.
