Plant found in Oklahoma looks to be taken off endangered list

A rare plant found in Oklahoma could have its endangered status removed.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed removing Geocarpon minimum, nicknamed “Tiny Tim” from the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Plants List.

They state that the threats to the plant have been eliminated or reduced to the point that it no longer meets the definition of an endangered or threatened species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973.

The species was first listed as endangered in 1987 due to its limited range and threats to its habitat. According to The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, the plant was first discovered in Oklahoma in 2023 at Skiatook Lake
