TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Police Department arrested a man accused of robbing a woman sitting at a picnic table in east Tulsa. He was later identified by his distinctive face tattoos.
On Tuesday around 6:20 a.m., a woman flagged down an officer to report she’d been robbed at gunpoint.
The victim said she was sitting at a picnic table outside a taco truck near East Admiral Place and Memorial Drive when a man walked from across the street and pointed a gun at her.
The suspect took the victim’s bag and a silver ring from her finger.
Police said detectives began searching the area and found video showing Rivas walking nearby, which helped identify him by his distinctive face tattoos.
Detectives continued to pursue this case throughout the day and saw Rivas walking northbound on South Sheridan Road.
As officers approached the suspect, he started running to hide behind a house and grabbing for his waistband. Officers found his ditched handgun along the path he was running.
After jumping fences in the neighborhood, officers set up a perimeter near East King Place and North Maplewood Avenue and saw the suspect try to force his way into one of the houses.
Police said a K-9 officer and his partner found the suspect hiding in shrubbery. Officers moved in and took him into custody.
