SAPULPA — A Creek County Deputy died less than an hour after apprehending a wanted suspect Wednesday night.
Several different law enforcement agencies, including the Creek County Sheriff’s Department, were working together to apprehend a felon wanted on multiple felony warrants.
During the operation, the suspect attempted to flee police by jumping a fence, crossing a creek, and running through an open field. Deputy Adam Heitman and his K-9 partner, Thanos, successfully pursued and apprehended the suspect, who was taken into custody without further incident.
Less than an hour after the arrest, Deputy Heitman suffered a medical emergency, and despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, the deputy was pronounced deceased at 7:41 p.m. He was 38 years old and leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
