The Public Service Company of Oklahoma announced its support for the White House’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge, which aims to protect everyday Americans from having to pay for energy infrastructure expansion for data centers.
The pledge is intended to make sure existing utility customers do not have higher power bills and that companies that will use large amounts of electricity will pay their own way for their energy needs.
PSO said it supports the pledge in saying that new large-load customers, like data centers, pay the costs associated with serving their energy needs.
“Participating companies commit to paying for the generation needed for their operations, funding required electric infrastructure upgrades, and entering long-term arrangements that
ensure they remain responsible for the costs associated with serving their facilities,” PSO said in a news release.
PSO said its proposed data center and large load tariff, which was filed with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission last month, is also meant to help protect existing customers by requiring large-load customers to make long-term commitments, fund infrastructure needed to serve their facilities, and assume the costs associated with their energy demands rather than shifting those costs to other customers.
