COWETA, Okla. — The Coweta Police Department received final review letters from the Wagoner County District Attorney’s Office regarding the investigation of Coweta City Council, confirming no criminal charges will be filed.

The Coweta Police Department announced an investigation into allegations involving City government officials in May after receiving formal complains from citizens, examining compliance with the Oklahoma Records Act, misuse of public office, ethic conduct transparency and economic development activity.

The findings of the investigation were presented during a special council meeting on June 30. Police said the majority of allegations were unsubstantiated and evidence did not support defining that state law, criminal statues or applicable regulations have been violated.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation assisted with the investigation. During the June 30 special council meeting, Police said OSBI found that no Oklahoma law was violated, but OSBI does not publicly release its findings.

After the investigation was completed, the findings were provided to the DA’s Office for final review. On July 20, the Coweta Police received a letter from the DA’s Office, which expressed no evidence of criminal misconduct was found.
