OKLAHOMA CITY –– Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd says when it comes to mishandling federal funds, Oklahoma is part of the problem.
“By and large, many states have not proven to be good stewards of federal funds, and far too often, in recent years, Oklahoma has been part of the problem,” Byrd said.
On Monday, Byrd released the Federal Single Audit for Fiscal Year 2024, and found questionable costs totaling almost $25 Million dollars in several different agencies.
The annual audit reveals oversight problems at the Department of Human Services for $14.5 million, the Office of Management and Enterprise Services for $3.8 million, and the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services for $6.2 million.
“Some of the most shocking examples of waste and abuse we find involve federally funded programs administered at the state level,” Byrd said.
