The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Weston Edwards was on his way home shortly after 12:30 on Monday along 41st Street when he stopped to conduct a pedestrian check on a suspect who was walking in and out of traffic.
TCSO says that’s when the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at Edwards, who returned fire.
The suspect, 37-year-old Lucien Auguste, remains in critical condition at an area hospital.
Deputy Edwards was not injured and remains on routine paid administrative leave as the shooting investigation continues.
Edwards has been with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office since July 1, 2012.
Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado said, “We will not be making further comment at this time, as this investigation is ongoing. We are grateful that Deputy Edwards is safe and that no other citizens were harmed during this incident.”
Law enforcement from several different departments responded to the seen with so many people in the area over the busy lunch hour.
