Broken Arrow man facing two counts of soliciting first degree murder in court today

By Kirk McCracken

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – A Broken Arrow man allegedly tried to hire a plumber to kill a Tulsa couple that won a nearly $1 million dollar judgement against him.

Keith Cathey was in court today for allegedly attempting to hire a hit man to kill the couple. Cathey was charged with two counts of soliciting first degree murder, and it was reportedly caught on tape.

According to an affidavit, Cathey could be heard offering a plumber $100,000 to kill a couple after they bought a bat-infested house from Cathey. The plumber’s job requires him to record phone interactions with clients for customer service purposes.

The affidavit states Cathey said: “If you know a hit man, I’d give you a hundred thousand (dollars) to have those people killed, I’m not even joking… Give me a call, I’m not joking. I’ll give you a hundred thousand dollars, you kill both of them. I’m looking at you with an honest to God look.”

Cathey allegedly told the plumber he had also solicited homeless people to commit the killings, but he was having a hard time finding anyone to do the job. He was arrested in September and faces two counts of soliciting first degree murder.
