Schools making preparations for incoming inclement weather

OKLAHOMA — Schools around Oklahoma and preparing themselves for the incoming weather this weekend and how it will effect the upcoming school week.

Tulsa 

Tulsa Public Schools says they are monitoring the weather and staying in contact with the National Weather Service and Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency. They state that they will announce weather closings or delays on the impacted day no later than 5 a.m. 

They also share updates with familes and staff by email, text on their Facebook page and at their website.

Union Public Schools have not made a decision regarding Friday classes, but has already canceled all school-related events and activities through the weekend starting Friday night. The Robotic Rumble will be moved to Saturday, February 21.

McAlester

McAlester Public Schools says that decisions regarding closures will be made by 6 a.m. on the day in question. Decisions will be made on a day-to-day basis.

They state the district will send a ParentSquare message to all parents, faculty, and staff for the ones they have current contact information. They also say McAlester Public schools will not release early. If inclement weather moves in during the day they will observe a “liberal leave policy”. During that time parents are welcome to come and pick up their children.

For students that drive, they can be released to leave school only when the school receives a phone call from their parents.

Muskogee

Muskogee Public Schools says notifications on school closures will be sent to parents and/or guardians and staff by phone text messages and email using their messaging system. The information will also be posted on their district website, social media and shared with local stations, including KRMG and our news partners at FOX23. Decisions will be made by 6 a.m. on the school day in question.

Owasso

Owasso Public Schools says they will be sending Chromebooks home with elementary students today just incase they need to move to distance learning on Friday. 

They say if a distance learning day is implemented, Owasso will send communications through text and email, the Owasso Public Schools website, and on their social media accounts on Facebook and X, formely known as Twitter.
