TULSA, Okla. — EMSA provided another update about its response to weather-related calls as freezing temperatures persist following a winter storm that hit the Tulsa area.

As of 10:00 a.m. on Monday, EMSA has responded to two cold exposure calls and transferred one patient to the hospital for further treatment.

Since Friday afternoon, EMSA has responded to a total of two carbon monoxide incidents and 21 cold‑exposure emergencies. In all, nine patients have been transported to hospitals for additional treatment.

Overall, crews have responded to 72 slip-and-fall-emergencies, more than double the typical amount of fall-related calls usually seen during typical weather conditions. 48 of those 72 patients were taken to the hospital for further treatment.

EMSA shared the following reminders with residents amid the winter weather:

  • Ensure all home heating equipment is functioning properly.
  • Never operate generators indoors.
  • Dress in warm layers when spending time outside.
  • Check on elderly relatives, neighbors, and those who may be especially vulnerable to the cold.
