Tulsa Airports issues notice of data security incident

By Fox23.com News Staff

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Airports Improvement Trust (TAIT) issued a notice on Friday regarding a recent data security incident.

On Jan. 20, it was determined that an unauthorized third party accessed and obtained certain files from its computer system from Jan. 17  to Jan. 20.

After discovering this, TAIT said it took immediate action to secure its network, notified law enforcement and sought out support from a cybersecurity firm that launched a forensic investigation and mitigation effort.

The investigation is still ongoing, but TAIT said it is confident that it has secured its computer systems.

Some of the affected files contained personal information, including phone numbers, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or other unique government-issued identification numbers, and routing and financial account numbers.

TAIT said not every data element was involved for every affected individual.

TAIT shared the following statement in part:

“We took immediate steps to contain the incident and are implementing additional and/or enhanced reasonable safeguards, including risk assessments, technical and physical layereddefenses, employee training, and updates to our TSA-approved incident response plan. We have also enhanced monitoring to help prevent a recurrence. TAIT utilizes industry-standard security solutions to support threat detection, network monitoring, government-supported cyber protection, and multi-factor authentication for system access. Those potentially affected by this incident are encouraged to remain vigilant by reviewing account statements and monitoring credit reports for suspicious activity and to consider implementing a fraud alert or credit freeze with the major credit bureaus.”

We told you earlier this week when the Tulsa International Airport said it was the victim of a ransomware attack. In a statement from the airport, they said the incident did not impact airport operations and it does not affect daily travel.

“The airport has taken steps to contain the incident and is confident the risk has been mitigated,” the airport said.
