TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Police say that a suspect tried to blend in after using a skateboard to elude officers.
It happened Sunday evening around 7:30pm. A Tulsa Police Officer saw a gray Hyundai Tucson that was reported stolen out of Broken Arrow. The Officer tried to pull the driver over near Pine and N. College Ave. in North Tulsa, but the driver fled. He was driving recklessly in neighborhoods, running stop signs, speeding near Springdale Elementary (where kids were outside playing), and reaching speeds of about 60 mph. Officers decided to stop their pursuit due to the dangerous behavior of the driver.
A short time later officers found the stolen Tucson still running on one of the nearby streets. Some kids in the area flagged officers down and said that they’d just seen 22-year-old Kade Hewitt skateboarding away from the vehicle.
Officers followed clues from witnesses and found Hewitt at a nearby home pretending to help work on a motorcycle parked outside. When officers confronted Hewitt, they found his skateboard and clothes that matched the description of the driver of the stolen Tucson.
He was arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle AFCF (After Former Conviction of a Felony) and Eluding.
