A section of Riverside Drive was shut down on Monday after a Tulsa man allegedly injured a child and then threatened suicide.
Tulsa Police say 29-year-old Levi Shane Simpson was taken into custody following an active standoff situation at an apartment complex near 80th and Wheeling. Reports said that at around 3 p.m., Simpson told 911 dispatchers that he had “done something terrible” to his girlfriend’s 6-year-old child and threatened suicide if officers arrived.
Officers say they spoke with a nurse at the hospital, and it was confirmed that the young child suffered severe injuries, including signs consistent with strangulation.
Simpson was eventually taken into custody later that day.
Based on physical evidence, victim injuries, and the suspect’s own admissions, Simpson was booked into David L. Moss on one count of Child Abuse.
Tulsa police did not release Simpson’s name until today.
