WAGONER COUNTY, Okla. — The Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man they say fired shots during a domestic violence incident Thursday night.
Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call with shots fired at a residence in the 68700 block of South 313 Road around 10:45 p.m.
When they arrived, deputies made contact with a person outside that said people were fighting inside. One of the deputies entered the home and saw the suspect struggling with another man over an AR-15 style rifle while the victim yelled “Don’t shoot me.”
Deputies detained the suspect who they say was heavily intoxicated. They determined the fight began during a domestic dispute when the suspect threatened to get the weapon. They say the suspect armed himself with the rifle before the struggle began. During the fight, several rounds were reportedly fired inside the residence.
Deputies recovered shell casings from inside the home as well as the rifle. They also located four other loaded firearms inside the bedroom closet. The suspect admitted the guns belonged to him and admitted he was on probation for a prior second-degree burglary conviction. Deputies confirmed he was prohibited from possessing firearms as part of his probation.
The victim suffered cuts and other lacerations during the incident.
The suspect was booked into the Wagoner County Detention Center for domestic assault and battery with a deadly weapon, shooting with intent to kill, carrying firearms while under the influence, reckless conduct with a firearm, threatening to perform an act of violence, use of a firearms while committing a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was served an active Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation warrant for illegal operation of an off-road vehicle in a public hunting area.
We are choosing not to name the suspect at this time as charges have not been officially filed as of yet.
