TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Community College unveiled its newly redesigned penguin before the Route 66 Centennial Capital Cruise passes by the Metro Campus.
TCC unveiled the penguin on Wednesday, which was painted by artist and TCC alumna Alexandra O’Neal.
The penguin was painted with a new Route 66 inspired look to mark the highway’s 100th anniversary.
TCC said the six-foot-tall fiberglass penguin is one of 107 created in 2002 as part of a Tulsa Zoo fundraiser to complete its African penguin exhibit.
Our news partners at FOX23 spoke with O’Neal on how the piece connects to Route 66.
O’Neal shared why working on the penguin is important to her as a former TCC student.
“It means a lot to me because I’m a TCC alumna, so it’s really cool how I got to do this art piece and bring some art life back to the TCC campus,” said O’Neal.
You can view the redesigned penguin on the corner of East 10th Street and South Cincinnati Avenue.
