TULSA, Okla. — Five years after being told a grocery store in north Tulsa would never survive, the owner of the Oasis Fresh Market grocery store is adding two more stores.
Oasis Founder A.J. Johnson says they’ve bought the Cox Cash Saver grocery store at 62nd and Peoria.
They’re also set to open another store next month on the ground floor of the Arco Apartments building at 6th and Cincinnati in downtown Tulsa.
The original store is at Pine and Peoria.
Johnson, a black business owner, says that 50-percent of black-owner business don’t make it to the five-year mark, but he points out that Oasis has not only survived beyond five years but is also thriving.
He describes Oasis Fresh Market as a “mission-driven” business to give underserved areas access to quality groceries and fresh produce.
