Walters, Department of Education sued by Edmond Memorial School teacher

OKLAHOMA CITY — An Edmond school teacher is suing the former superintendent of education and the Oklahoma Department of Education for defamation.

Edmond Memorial English teacher Regan Killackey recently filed a defamation lawsuit, accusing former Education Superintendent Ryan Walters of intentionally abusing his position to end Killacky’s teaching career.

In 2019, the Edmond teacher posted a picture on social media of him holding a knife to the throat of a President Donald Trump Halloween mask while a young man pretended to stab the head of the mask. The post was sent to Walters, and he discussed the situation in a 2024 board meeting, wanting to revoke Killackey’s teaching license.

When Walters stepped down from his position, the new Superintendent, Lindel Fields, withdrew Killackey’s license revocation.

The teacher is asking for damages in excess of $75,000.
