WAGONER, Okla. — A new community art project in Wagoner is giving residents a chance to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary while leaving a lasting mark on their hometown.
The Wagoner History Center’s “250 Years, 250 Voices” community mural invites people of all ages to paint individual tiles that will become part of a larger display celebrating the nation’s 250th and the community’s shared history.
The mural first began during Wagoner’s Summerfest and has already helped bring new visitors through the museum’s doors. Ghazal said many people in the community didn’t realize the museum existed, making the project an opportunity to showcase both local history and local creativity.
Rather than painting a permanent image, community members create individual tiles that can be rearranged and expanded as more people participate. Organizers plan to continue adding new tiles throughout the coming months, allowing the mural to grow alongside the community.
People of every skill level are encouraged to participate, from experienced artists to first-time painters. Organizers say every tile represents an individual’s voice and helps tell the story of Wagoner.
The mural will remain on display at the Wagoner History Center while additional community members continue adding their own artwork throughout the year.
